What is the difference between Salsa, Bachata & Merengue?

  • Bachata & Merengue are easy dances that students will learn quickly. Merengue is a two step dance with a sway from side to side. Bachata is a 4 step dance with a tap and/or movement of the hip. Salsa is the more difficult dance, with a forward and back motion, that requires a stronger concentration of learning of precise movements for both the leader and follower.

Do lessons progress weekly?

  • Every week we take time to review basic things like the basic step, cross body lead, half turns, left and right turns then add other things like partner dancing, leading and following simple turn patterns and so on to expand the progress of the lesson.

Do I need a dance partner?

  • A dance partner is always recommended but not necessary as we rotate when we do partner work.

How should I dress & what kind of shoes should I wear?

  • We recommend you dress comfortable. Jeans, a Skirt, Suit, Jump suit, whatever makes you feel good. We recommend you wear the type of shoe you would normally wear when you go to a party or wedding or an occasion where shoes are called for. Sneakers or Gym shoes are not recommended, but acceptable.
